All the monkey-see-monkey-do states seeking to enact their own amazon tax bill, don't they see amazon dropping the states that do this like hotcakes? Or are they too busy rubbing their greedy little hands together imagining all of the amazon tax dollars they THINK they will be collecting, but which they WON'T. Maybe someone should tell them to stop rubbing their hands together and start reading the results of amazon's reactions to these implemented bills. Hope those states are proud that destroyed income revenue for their citizens. I think the word IDIOTS is appropriate here for the state law makers.

Does this mean that if you use Google Adwords to advertise (other consideration) your items, you have to pay sales tax on sales to CA customers?

How about if you advertise on the TV and the network is based in CA?

"THE SELLER ENTERS INTO AN AGREEMENT WITH A RESIDENT OF THE STATE UNDER WHICH THE RESIDENT, FOR A COMMISSION OR OTHER CONSIDERATION, DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY REFERS POTENTIAL CUSTOMERS TO THE SELLER, WHETHER BY A LINK ON AN INTERNET WEBSITE OR OTHERWISE"

At least Maryland's law will apply to ANY MEDIA OUTLET engaged in advertising.

How can they legally tax sales from an advertising medium ONLY because it is internet based?? How can they legally justify it? What about TV, radio, billboards, and newspapers? They all " for a commission or other consideration, directly or indirectly refers potential customers of tangible personal property". The original Amazon law (NY) was never intended to involve advertising, only VENDORS selling through Amazon.

Today Amazon canceled all Colorado affiliates, including me. I didn't make any real cash off mine, so I'm not really harmed, but I was shocked. Not much discussion of this tax around the state that I've seen.

Looking for motel in Adelaide? Visit us at Motel Business and find lots of great and affordable accommodations just for you and your family. We don't have to worry about the sales tax issues here! No worries! No online sales tax battles. Motels typically attract travelers trekking across country for business or pleasure, as they are typically quite simple: containing a double bed, a television and a small en suite bathroom. Think we're going to hound you on the tax?

I agree with what you wrote and with Tom Kirby's reading of SB 660 and I'm also a Virginia resident internet business owner.

He wrote: "I love my state, but they are well-known to be at least 20 years behind everyone else on issues such as this." I agree with this statement too. And I don't think that Virginia is going to be able to handle it without federal assistance. Maybe some federal legislation to clarify things for simple folk, and business owners to understand.

I thought this bill looked familiar! Thank you for pointing out that it's revamped from the 2009 version that the governor refused to sign.
