About

Sales Tax Buzz is a web log funded by Avalara (www.avalara.com). It is written by Althea Azeff.

Avalara is a privately held company that provides full-service sales tax management using innovative technology to automate statutory transactional tax compliance processes. Althea Azeff is an individual, employed by Avalara. The company is based on Bainbridge Island, Washington, near Seattle, with offices in Irvine and San Diego, California; Falls Church, Virginia, and Batavia, Illinois. Althea is based in Seattle, across the Puget Sound from Avalara.

As an Avalara employee, Althea handles Avalara’s investor relations, media relations, and a national accountants’ network, as well as SST and other tax law research. She is absolutely capable of wearing one hat at a time (e.g. web logger, researcher, or any combination of the areas listed above). Sure, she earns her daily bread from Avalara, but she has the sort of independent streak that prohibits her mind from being controlled by a corporation, large or small, private or public.

Althea earned a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and her Juris Doctorate from the University of Pittsburgh. She is also a certified conflict mediator. Previous professional experience includes serving as Editor of Tax Notes International for Tax Analysts; Editor for the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) for CPA Client Tax Letter, CPA Client Bulletin, and Planner (for CPA financial planners); as well as holding senior level corporate roles at New York Life Insurance Co. and elsewhere. She has also provided content and counsel for law firms, accounting practices, hedge funds, nonprofits, educational organizations, and others.
